Qld: Lawyers expected to apply for bail tomorrow

Lawyers for a man charged over the headache pill company extortions say his poor heath
will deteriorate if he isn't given bail.

They're expected to apply to the Supreme Court tomorrow to have him released from custody.

DENNIS DONALD FOUNTAIN, aged 62, of Kirkdale Road, Chapel Hill, in Brisbane's west,
spent last night behind bars after appearing in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 10 charges
including extortion and attempted murder.

He's accused of extortion attempts against Panadol manufacturer SmithKline Beecham
and Herron Pharmaceuticals.

Magistrate CHRIS OWENS refused bail on the grounds he may commit further offences.

FOUNTAIN'S barrister WAYNE TOLTON told the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday that
FOUNTAIN is a sick man who has numerous medical problems including degenerative knee-joints,
arthritis, spinal injury, a central nervous syndrome disorder, stomach ulcers, bladder
problems, Ross River fever, glandular fever and chronic fatigue syndrome.

He says FOUNTAIN needs hydrotherapy five times a week in order to remain mobile.
