PRINCIPAL APPOINTED IN COLONIE.(Local)

Byline: Marc Carey Staff writer

Albert Aldi, principal of Columbia High School in East Greenbush, has been named to the same post at Colonie Central High School.

Aldi, principal in East Greenbush for the last three years, will assume his new post, which will pay $77,000 annually, on Jan. 6, according to Superintendent Thomas Brown. He said that salary will be pro-rated.

Aldi replaces Theodore Gilkey, whom the South Colonie Board of Education elevated to the post of assistant superintendent in August.

According to Brown, more than 60 people applied for the principal's position. After the Oct. 1 deadline for applications, eight finalists were interviewed by a team of administrators, teachers and parents, and the eight also met with some students, said Brown.

"I think he's an outstanding individual," said Brown of Aldi, pointing out that he has experience as a principal of a suburban school district. Prior to his tenure at Columbia, he had been an assistant principal at Linton High School and a teacher at Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady. "He knows the area and has the high school background to make him an outstanding candidate," said Brown.

The hiring was also supported by school board member Scott Emerson, who is a student teacher at Columbia. To see Aldi's accomplishments, he said, "You need only ask the teachers" at the East Greenbush high school.
